Manure & the New Year

Our lesson for New Year's Day was Luke 13:6-9, the Parable of the Fig Tree. It was kind of an odd lesson to start the year with, but in the end, it worked.

Jesus is like the Servant in the parable: he stands up for us before our righteous Judge and stands in for us, doing all the work himself.

As we start "one more year" with the Lord, we should ask ourselves:
  1. What's the deadwood?  What needs to be cut down this year?
  2. What's the greenwood?  What should we give our time and attention to this year?
  3. What's the fruit?  What can we thank God for this year?
