We wrapped up our sermon series today on the Second Part of our Church's Vision (Build Up our Communities in Vitality and Numbers) with a look at the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead.
It seems that some in the Corinthian church were saying that "the resurrection of the dead" was just a metaphor. Just as we talk about "turning over a new leaf in life," so some of the Corinthians were talking about their new life in Christ as a "resurrection from the dead." Paul writes to correct their half-right understanding, listing five problems with a purely spiritual "resurrection" (1Cor 15:16-20) and expanding their horizons to take in the literal resurrection on the Last Day (1Cor 15:51-58).
It was one of my longer sermons, and I barely even scratched the surface. Listen here.
